Diet For A Healthier Heart

What you mostly eat will determine how your body will function. This is all the more important with regards to your heart. Aside from genetics, your diet is one of the major factors that can determine heart health. Following a healthy diet will ensure that your heart remains just as healthy. There are certain diet choices that you should make in order to make this possible. Here are some of them.

Choose Healthy Fats

Adding fat into your diet does not necessarily mean that it is unhealthy. There are healthy fats that can also be beneficial to your heart. Omega-3 fatty acids, which is a type of unsaturated fat found in foods like avocado, nuts, salmon and other fatty fish, is known to reduce the inflammation in the body that causes heart disease and other health issues.

Reduce Consumption Of Red Meat

Red meat has long been associated with heart disease. The main reason is that digesting red meat results into creating a by-product called Trimethylamine N-oxide or TMAO. This compound is known to be a contributor to heart disease by enhancing the cholesterol deposits in the artery wall. The byproduct compound is also known to interact with blood platelets that interfere with normal clotting responses. The effect is an increased risk of stroke and heart attack. Limiting your consumption of red meat will help reduce the risk.

Eat More Vegetables

Eating more vegetable can also help in your quest towards a healthier heart. Plates full of colorful veggies can be full of antioxidants. They help combat free radicals in the body. Free radicals are by-product compounds that cause inflammation which, in turn, affects heart health. Try to add more vegetables in your lunch and dinner plates. The wider the variety of vegetable colors there are on your plate, the better.
