Surprising Reasons For Feeling Hungry

Hunger is your body’s way to tell you that it needs to get some nutrients. But that may not all be the reason for feeling those hunger pangs now and then. There are also some surprising reasons why you can suddenly feel hunger. Here are some that you should know about.

Eating a low-protein meal to start your day

People tend to go hungry more by virtue of the food they choose to eat. If you choose to eat a high-carbohydrate diet like a stack of pancakes for breakfast, then you might just go hungry a lot earlier than if you choose to eat a protein-rich breakfast like sausage and eggs. Studies show that eating a high-protein breakfast tends to make you more full throughout the morning. Not only that, you also tend to eat less calories during lunch.

Enjoying too much food-related social media content

Sometimes it is what you see that can make you go hungry. If you are fond of checking out tempting images of food shared by a friend on social media, then it can actually cause you to go hungry.  A recent scientific study indicates that when people see attractive images of food on social media, blood rushes to areas of the brain associated with taste. The effect can be enough to compel you to eat even when you are not hungry physically.

Neglecting some fat in your diet

Some people tend to avoid eating fat when trying to watch their weight. So they usually prefer eating low-fat or fat-free processed food alternatives. But on the other hand, these foods might contain extra sugar or added salt in some in order to preserve the tastiness of the food associated with its fat content. Not only will it actually lead you to consume extra calories, these alternatives may even cause you to go hungry more frequently. Fat, just like protein and fiber, also helps you feel full longer. It slows down the emptying of the stomach and also trigger the production of hormones that make you feel satisfied.
