The authors of Eat This, Not That diet program has released a report about the saltiest foods in America for 2009. After looking at the sodium content of hundreds of food items from fast food to comfort food, the report declared P. F. Chang’s Hot and Sour Soup Bowl as the saltiest of the lot with 6,878mg of sodium, which is like eating 208 saltine crackers.
In fact, many health experts would discourage people from eating too much fast food, even avoiding them all together, as these have high amounts of sodium. However, some fast food restaurants are providing menu items that are not only have reduced amounts of sodium, but are also overall healthy as well. Here are some of the fast food products that have the lowest amount of sodium.
Taco Bell Fresco Crunchy Taco
Aside from having a low 370mg of sodium in its ingredients, this refreshing fast food item also contains 150 calories, eight grams of fat, and seven grams of protein.
Subway Oven-Roasted Chicken Breast Salad
This food item is another low-sodium fare with only 390mg. But what lacks in sodium is rich in protein. You can have your nice muscle-building fix at 19 grams of protein per serving, not to mention 2.5 grams of fat and 140 calories.
KFC Grilled Chicken Breast
You can never go wrong with grilled chicken. With only 440mg of sodium, 4 grams of fat, and 180 calories, this can be an excuse for dieters to eat fast food. Oh, and did we mention that it has 35 grams of protein?
Wendy’s Jr. Hamburger
Wendy’s may have some of the world’s most heart-stopping hamburgers-literally-but its Jr. Hamburger may be a little bit forgiving as it only contains 490mg of sodium and 8 grams of fat.
The fast food chain that was the target of a binging documentary also has its healthy fare from the most unexpected menu items such as its 250-calorie hamburger, which also contains 9 grams of fat, 12 grams of protein, and only 520mg of sodium.
