Party This Summer Without Putting On The Pounds

Summer is the time for cookouts and barbecues. If you don’t watch out, this could spell trouble for your summer figure. Fortunately Naturally Thin author Betheny Frankel has the solution. Frankel shares her tips to partying without the pounds to Health.com.

Eat slowly. Frankel says people think eats a lot at parties because she still eating whenveryone else has finished. But the truth is, “I just eat really slowly, which means I’m eating a lot less and enjoying it more,” Frankel admits.

Use the sandwich technique. Susan B. Roberts, Ph.D., director of the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University and author of The Instinct Diet: Use Your Five Food Instincts to Lose Weight and Keep It Off, advises this technique of sandwiching high-calorie foods between two high-fiber, lower-calorie foods, to trick your body into feeling fuller without gorging on the high-calorie treat. Dr. Roberts recommends starting with filling foods such as green salad with beans. Follow that up with an entrée such as chicken barbecue, then have a small helping of a rich dessert. End your meal with low-calories foods like fresh fruits.

Eat. If it’s the grilled rib eye you like, then by all means have some. Do not go for the chicken or fish just because they’re the healthier option. Betheny says it’s better to have small serving of what you really love than a generous helping of something you don’t – and then end you pigging out later because you were not satisfied. “Skinny is a mindset,” says Bethenny. “It’s about enjoying yourself instead of obsessing about food.”
