Is Honey Is Good For You?

honeyHoney is good for your health. As a natural sweetener itself, it can be a substitute to sugar. Though honey has 64 calories while sugar has only 46, this will mean you need less. In addition, it is as pure as it gets.

Since your very own white table sugar is processed from sugarcanes, the innate nutrients found in them are stripped away, most especially its proteins, vitamins and healthy enzymes. On the other hand, honey remains in its pure state and does not lose any of its nutrients.

What is even good about honey is the fact that it contains 22 amino acids, calcium, minerals, potassium and even antioxidants. It can be easily digested than sugar, making it ideal in nutrient absorption. Moreover, it has lower glycemic index than what sugar has. That makes it ideal for those who have to keep their blood pressure in check.

Using honey in your recipes

For incorporating honey in your diet or your own recipes, try doing the things below:

  • On your pancakes or whole grain bread toast, try replacing syrup with honey.
  • Instead of using sugar, use honey on your strawberries instead.
  • Replace whipped cream meant for fruit salads and use honey in its stead.
  • Use one-half to two-thirds cup of honey if you have to use one cup of sugar in your cooking.
  • Minimize by using one-fourth cup of liquid if you are putting one cup of honey.
  • In baking, unless you need sour milk or yogurt, add one-fourth cup of baking soda per cup of honey you are going to add as this will neutralize the acidity.
