Big Changes Recommended for American Diet

A new report has recommended drastic changes to the American diet, including lowering total calorie consumption, cutting down on salt and sugars intake, and concentrating on diets based on plants and sea food.

The report, prepared by the 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, will set as a foundation for current federal guidelines on diet, nutrition, and health. It could also influence current food assistance programs like school lunches, food stamps, and industry regulation.

These recommendations were create just in time when about two-thirds of American adults and one-third of American kids are overweight or obese, putting them at risk in various chronic diseases and health problems.
