Darker urine is always an indicator of dehydration. The dark urine may also make you prone to other health problems. Dark colored urine is concentrated with waste products as well as bacteria that can get left behind in the urinary tract. It may cause bladder irritation or even a urinary tract infection.

Water is the best option to drink if you need to rehydrate. You can count on coffee, team juice, milk and other beverages into your cont of daily fluid intake. But nothing beats water in keeping your body rehydrated. It is important to note that coffee, tea and other beverages containing caffeine as well as alcoholic drinks are considered mild diuretics. This can lead to more frequent urination, causing you to lose fluids in a shorter period of time. Stick to plain drinking water for the best results. You need around 64 ounces or 1.8 liters of water daily for optimum rehydration.

If you lose fluids during a sports activity or exercise, you can also consider drinking a sports drink. Physical activities can cause you to lose water through sweat. This also includes losing essential electrolytes, minerals and salt that the body needs to function. Most sports drinks are designed to help you recover the essential compounds that you lost through intensive workouts.

Aside from proper rehydration, you should also be aware of over hydration. It can also have a bad effect on the body. Too much water in the body can dilute the sodium levels in your body, which is essential in maintaining your blood pressure. Low sodium levels in the body can cause cramps, fatigue and headaches.
