Zumba Fitness

zumbaZumba combines Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a fun yet effective workout system.

With its caloric-burning, heart-racing, muscle-pumping, body-energizing moves, Zumba fans attest to the workout’s benefits.

Creator Alberto "Beto" Perez says "We utilize the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. It’s a way of mixing body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps," continues Perez. "It’s fun and addictive." "It’s wonderful to see so many people having fun while getting fit… I think the terrific Latin rhythms in the program have taken the ‘work’ out of "working out."

Zumba was conceived when the Miami-based trainer left his aerobic music. He only had Latin salsa and merengue music in his car. Deciding to use it anyway, Perez came up with some last-minute improvisations and thus Zumba was born.

Aside from salsa and merengue, Zumba also imbibes other musical genres such as cumbia, reggaeton, hip-hop, pop, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and calypso and Salsaton. Music selections include both fast and slow rhythms to help tone and sculpt the body.

At present, Zumba is one of the most popular exercise routines and has aligned with AFAA (Aerobic & Fitness Association of American), SCW Fitness Education, Can-Fit-Pro (International Trade Show & Conference in Canada), and many top national fitness facility chains and organizations. Zumba programs are also released in DVD format for people who can’t go to the gym.
