Being healthy is not just all about dieting. It should be combined with following a good fitness program. A good diet and physical activity like working out at the gym will allow you to become healthy and fit, provided you follow it regularly. But there are also certain nutrition myths many people follow that may turn out to affect you from achieving your fitness goals. Here are some of those myths.

Eat protein bars as a protein source during workouts.

People who work out often might need a protein boost when they start on their daily routine. That is why it may be very convenient to consume a protein bar for this. But if you are really serious about losing weight and maintaining it, then eating a protein bar may not be the solution. In fact, you are better off avoiding them when you do workout. The word protein in the labels of these bars can be misleading since they do not contain the essential amount of protein in them. A protein bar can contain more sugar than there is protein. It will actually affect one’s work out rather than help boost performance.

Working out on an empty stomach burns more fats.

It may seem to make sense to exercise on an empty stomach and you will burn more fats. But this is not necessarily the case. It will all depend on your glycogen or stored carbs in your body. When you work out, your body will first make use of your glycogen stores until it runs out. Only then will your body switch to using fats for energy. One other thing, once the body burns up fat as you work out, your exercise intensity may not be as good as when your body is using carbs for energy.

Eat immediately after a workout.

Some people believe that eating immediately after a workout will help the body recover well. But it will take the right combination of carbs and protein to get the most out of your workout. But it may not necessarily be an immediate need. The time window when you need to eat protein in order to build muscle efficiently is actually several hours longer than previously thought. So getting that snack immediately after a workout and then eating again at home can double down on the calories you consume that may cause you to gain weight.
