People who try to start on a fitness regimen can sometimes be led to follow popular health trends. These trends end up becoming what people may think as effective for their fitness goals. But just because a certain health regimen becomes quite popular does not necessarily mean that it is effective. A lot of so-called health or diet trends may be better off avoiding. Here are just some of them.

Juicing Fast Trend

The juicing trend has recently become popular among those looking for fitness trends to follow. According to proponents, juicing is an effective way to get rid of the toxins accumulated in the body by consuming juices instead of solid food for nutrients. While it may seem to make sense, getting rid of toxins in the body is more complex. The body is capable of flushing out the toxins as the functions of the different organs. Regular juicing and other such cleanses come with side effects, both mild and serious.

The Fat-Free Trend

The fat-free trend actually started around the 1990’s and it has since continued to be the basis of what people try to follow in order to stay trim and healthy. But recent studies indicate that avoiding natural fats in your diet may not be as effective or healthy as a daily program to stay trim and fit. People require a healthy amount of fat in their daily diet, around 20 to 35 percent of the daily calories. If not, it can lead to a variety of health conditions that can affect vitality, skin and memory, among others. In fact, consuming fat-free foods may even be detrimental to health, as most people are discovering. One reason surrounding this fat-free controversy is that most of the fat-free processed foods found in the grocery shelves contain higher amounts of sugar and other unhealthy additives in order to make them taste great.

Calorie-Cutting Trend

While weight loss requires limits to daily calorie consumption, this trend tries to take it to the extreme. Following a very low calorie diet will indeed lead to weight loss in the initial stage, the extreme measures may lead to putting the body in restrictive caloric intake will only cause it to go into survival mode. Lack of calories can trigger the body to slow down metabolism to conserve energy. The body’s starvation signals can eventually become overpowering that it can lead to binge eating. Calorie-cutting trends eventually lead to weight gain as well as a variety of other problems such as mood swings, depression, increased stress, and nutrient deficiencies.
