The Bland Diet is so bland it is not promoted through high-profile books, flashy websites, or celebrity endorsements. It is actually prescribed by physicians for people suffering from ulcers, chronic gastritis, reflux esophagitis, dyspepsia, bowel problems, nausea, vomiting, or gas.

It consists of eating lightly spiced foods that are soft and low in fiber. The Bland also calls for avoidance of stimulants like caffeine, fried foods, most raw fruits and vegetables, alcohol, and even sour or acidic foods.

This unique eating plan is helpful for people who have had stomach or intestinal surgery. It is also designed to decrease peristalsis and avoid irritation of the gastrointestinal tract.

Because the Bland Diet is doctor-prescribed, you are assured of its effectiveness when it comes to treating certain gastrointestinal ailments.

Disadvantages

This diet is not recommended to take into long-term use.

Those who prefer their vegetables eaten raw are also discouraged from taking the Bland Diet.
