American Idol is the country’s guilty pleasure. With that much attention for a reality-talent show, stars churned out by Idol (as well as the host and the judges) have come under scrutiny – regarding everything from their vocal prowess, their lovelife and of course, their weight.
The Idol-winner-turned-country-star was curvier during her Idol days. Recently however, the Grammy winner has been sporting a more slender figure.
Shape Magazine has reported that Underwood lost around 15-20 lbs by working the treadmill, swimming and sticking to a healthy diet – Carrie Udnerwood is a vegetarian. The singer admits to having a weakness for cheese though, but says she is keeps herself from overindulging by keeping a food diary – and some Kashi bars wherever she goes.
Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard has not been in the spotlight a lot since putting out a couple of hit songs a few years ago. Recently however, Studdard has been spotted looking a lot less rotund than when he won Idol. That’s because the singer has dropped almost 100 lbs according to MSNBC.
Though still cuddly, the Idol winner is hard at work managing his weight to avoid a number of diseases that run in his family including high blood pressure and diabetes. Studdard has also been attending a weight management center at Duke University. During his stay, the singer learned how to go for healthier food options. When he left, the second Idol adopted a vegetarian diet.
The original Idol did not believe in diets. But since winning the show and becoming a star, Clarkson has improved her eating habits and now focuses on portion control.
The singer admitted to UsWeekly that though she has a taste for chocolate, she indulges her cravings only to a certain point. Aside from paying a closer attention to portions, the singer also stepped up her fitness routine instead of following a specific diet plan.
The season 5 runner-up suffered from a serious eating disorder before joining Idol. The beautiful singer battled with bulimia for 5 years before going healthy.
The songstress managed to drop 30 lbs the right way – by taking up the Intuitive Eating plan. McPhee admitted to Shape Magazine that she eats anything she wants, but when she’s full, she’s done. As for exercise, the singer does weight raining to tone her muscles and spends 45 minutes on the treadmill 4-5 days a week.

UsWeekly revealed that the powerhouse performer gets up before dawn for her daily run. She follows that up with squats, push-ups and sit-ups. She also switched to a healthier diet of salads, grilled chicken and cranberry juice. To spike up her energy, the Dreamgirl snacks wisely by going for almonds, cashews, and raisins.
